Application

Plug in EMI filters  are mainly used in electronic equipment and electrical equipment to  reduce electromagnetic interference  on power lines. For optimal performance, plug in EMI filters should be installed close to the EMI source, using short cables and proper grounding to minimize interference. They have a wide range of applications including:
  • Single phase power supply
  • Switching power supply
  • Small and medium-sized machines
  • Home equipment
  • Medical equipment
  • Electrical and electronic equipment
  • Test and measuring instruments
  • Motors
  •
    Other devices

Plug in EMI filters are effective in real life power lines, not just in laboratory conditions.
In general, any electronic or electrical equipment that is sensitive to electromagnetic interference can benefit from an plug in EMI filter because it can effectively filter out noise and interference on the power line, improving the performance and reliability of the equipment.

How Plug-in EMI Filters - The Basics

Plug-in EMI filters - or IEC inlet filters for short, or sometimes just referred to as AC power entry filters - are designed to filter out - or rather block- all that nasty electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) that can be coming in on the power line. What they do is give you a nice, clean and stable supply of power, which is essential if you've got sensitive electronics to keep running smoothly.
So inside one of these filters there's a network of inductors and capacitors working together to keep out the high frequency noise that can cause problems, but still letting the normal AC current through, no problem.
  1. Inductors do their job by basically putting up a fight against high frequency signals - and that tends to reduce the overall level of noise you get.
  2. X-capacitors kick in to sort out the differential mode noise - that's the bit that's causing problems because of the difference in the line and neutral.
  3. Y-capacitors take care of the common mode noise - that's the bit that's causing problems between the line/neutral and the ground.
These plug-in EMI filters work on the power lines, from the in to the out, to reduce EMI. And that's what helps all these devices meet the various EMC compliance standards - like CE, FCC and CISPR.
You see these filters used in all sorts of applications : medical devices, industrial automation kit, telecoms equipment, audio and video systems and all sorts of test instruments.

Why choose plug in EMI filter?

First of all, the primary function of the IEC EMI filter is to effectively filter electromagnetic interference on the power line, which can ensure that your products comply with electrical safety and EMC standards and improve market competitiveness. Secondly, the design of plug in EMI filter is very special. It has the ability to be plugged directly into the power socket, without the need for complicated installation and debugging processes, which is particularly convenient and fast. At the same time, the compact design is easy to integrate into electrical equipment, greatly improving space utilization and saving costs. Finally, plug in EMI filters are suitable for a variety of electronic and electrical equipment, and can solve electromagnetic interference problems in both domestic and commercial environments.
To sum up, plug in EMI filters have become one of the indispensable and important solutions in the field of electromagnetic interference control due to their convenient installation and use, multi-functional filtering performance and suitability for a variety of equipment.
